Waterloo runs on ideas and appetite — two universities, a tech corridor that never quite logs off, and a student population that has strong opinions about poutine at 1 a.m. Sam's fits right in: honest food, big portions, halal and vegetarian on one board, and a mango shake with a campus following. Exam season, co-op season, moving-day season — the grill doesn't judge, it feeds.

Every Sam's Grill is run by the family that owns it — ours is no different. The Rajni family has been behind the counter in Waterloo since August 2020, pressing the patties, learning the regulars' names, and arguing (gently) about whether the pickle poutine is the best thing on the board. Come decide for yourself. Waterloo is a town that builds things and works late. That's the whole reason this store makes sense, somebody finishing at nine still deserves a proper hot meal, not whatever's left. Third store, same rule as the first: if it's not good enough for my own table, it doesn't leave the kitchen.

Rajni opened Waterloo in August 2020, nine years after the first flat-top in Guelph. Three stores now, run the same way, he'd still rather be on the floor than in a meeting, and he'll still tell you the fries are the part people underestimate.

Well today, my wife and I decide to give Sam Grill a try for the very first time. As we saw the place as we were driving thru Waterloo as we were originally heading to Burger King, but I can tell you , I am so happy we stop at Sam Grill in Waterloo. Customer service was amazing and the restaurant was in amazing shape and very clean and very nice. We were greeted by a nice gentleman as we entered the restaurant and he served us the whole way thru and brought our food to our table. My wife ordered a Hot Dog with Bacon, cheese and mustard and relish and fries and pop. I ordered a burger with bacon and mustard and onion and with fries and pop, we also ordered an order of battered mushrooms. All the food was fresh and hot and very tasty. We will definitely be a repeat customer for Sam’s Grill Waterloo.

we dined here recently. this is a must try place. juti the owner told me that everything is made fresh on site and you defo can tell. the cheese burgers rank very highly compared to other local faves. we also had the spicy and butter chicken poutine. wow!! the butter chicken is hands down the best in the city.

Sam's Grill in Waterloo recently opened up and the food is great. Hamburgers are homemade and fresh,many types of poutine to try. Prices are reasonable. It only takes 5 minutes to prepare and you can dine in, take out or delivery. The place is bright and has 2 televisions.

I went to the Guelph location a few years ago, and it was definitely NOT memorable. So I was a little hesitant when my husband suggested trying this place yesterday. However, I'm glad we went. Super friendly staff, and a very clean, welcoming environment. The menu boasted a Donair, and I was sold. It was delicious, as well as the onion rings, and poutine.😅 We were too hungry when we got home that I forgot to take food pics.🤷‍♀️ We will be back again though.
